Homework Help: Right in Your Home

I am the oldest of 10 kids and one thing that my mother has always found difficult is getting homework done at night. Wow, can you even imagine trying to get all your children ranging in age of Kindergarten to High School to sit down and do homework at the same time. It was impossible and truly my mother had to have outside help to complete the task. She hired one of the local High School students to come over in the afternoons and sit with one child while she sat with another child. In all reality, people do not have problems as bad as this getting homework done each evening. The simple think they can handle everything and the homework will get done in due time. Homework is essential in a students academic progress and I have found some helpful hints in saving time and hassle

These three types are a great way to begin. But you will eventually want to add other varieties of tropical fish. Consider basslets, wrasses, hawk and grammas to complement your tropical fish tank. Some difficult ones to keep, and therefore avoid, are mandarin, certain eels, butterfly fish and seahorses. For the skeptics of homework, here are a few important things to remember. Dr. Sam Goldstein states, Homework is important because it is at the intersection between home and school. It serves as a window through which you can observe your childrens education and express positive attitudes towards your children and their education. As children grow older, homework and the amount of time engaged in homework, increases in importance. For teachers and administrators, homework is a cost effective way to provide additional instruction in practice (http://www.hi2u.org/adhd/homework_1.htm). A Government site explains, Government guidelines on homework give a broad indication of how much time pupils might reasonably be expected to spend on homework. The guidelines emphasize the importance of homework and how it helps your child to learn, rather than focusing on whether it takes a certain amount of time (http://www.parentscentre.gov.uk/educationandlearning/whatchildrenlearn/learningathomeoutsideschool/homework/). Links for Learning, an online homework help site, states, Walking into a family of 4's living room in big, bold letters a sign reads, "HOMEWORK IS A BUMMER". Can you relate? It is so interesting how homework can be the cause of such annoyance in the household. Many parents after a couple of years just give up and figure their student can handle the daily tasks by themselves. As a teacher it is so frustrating having the students come to class without their homework done. If you listen to the teachers in the teachers lounge, parents would be mortified to find themselves as topics of being non-caring parent (www.links-for-learning.com). Just read these articles and remember that these are specialists who know the importance of homework.Really the main importance of homework is setting the study skills and reinforcing the ideas in discussed that day. As I have suggested above, my mother was amazing at enabling her children with proper study skills. What are proper study skills? Plan and simple learning to do after school homework. That one skill will ensure academic success in the years to come. One of the reasons that I decided to get my Masters was the idea of wanting to gain more education. When I finished my Bachelors in 1999, I honestly didnt know what to do. I started teaching elementary school, but that just didnt give me enough learning experience. Early in my life, my mother had taught me the importance of wanting to learn which thrived in our after school homework sessions. Do whatever it takes to make sure your students homework is getting done. This one skill will impact their entire future.

Basics Of Saltwater Tropical Fish

Some folks believe that the saltwater tropical fish aquariums look better than the freshwater aquariums. But are they? Which do you like? Below are some ways to choose which type to choose for your home. Also, you may want to go to http://www.fhhome.com for more home decorating ideas.

Challenge your friends and family to a race of the minds. Set a kitchen timer for one minute. When the time starts, write down as many winter-related words as you can think of. The winner gets a cup of hot cocoa and the chance to choose the next word race topic.Mollies, the same fish that you use in freshwater tanks, can be acclimated to salt water tanks and are quite hardy. These fish are very inexpensive and a great way to start off your marine tank. If you buy mollies in the pet store from a freshwater tank, acclimate them by dripping salt water into the bag over a period of 8 hours or so - removing excess water when the bag gets too full and slowly increasing the salinity. Some hardy fish you may want to consider for a saltwater tank include damsels, mollies and clownfish. As a teacher I have found that homework really is an important process that students NEED to learn to do after school. It is amazing how many parents disregard homework all together and dont get it done. That drives teachers insane, especially because it always seems like the students who dont do their homework have the lowest scores overall in the classroom. A good idea to verify this information is to go into any classroom for a week and record the progress of students who do their homework compare to those that dont. It is truly amazing how the simple effort of after school work really reinforces the ideas in the classroom. That information should be enough to start homework as soon as your student gets home, but some parents still need more persuasive information.* Winter Beach PartyWhile damsels and mollies may not be the most beautiful fish, the clownfish is certainly a colorful and interesting fish for your tank. These fish are fairly hardy but a bit more difficult to acclimate to a tank so you may not want to use them as starter fish. Clownfish are territorial but will only be aggressive with other clowns and are good for a community tank. Although clowns do like to live around a seas anemone, the will do fine without one which is good for the beginner since the anemone is fairly difficult to keep.

Indoor Winter Fun

Tell the cold weather to take a hike, and get ready to have some fun!

Bring that fun-in-the-sun feeling into your home with a winter beach bash. Spread beach towels on the living room floor; wear your swimsuit and a pair of flippers (why not?); feast on hot dogs; make castles out of clay and play- dough; and dont forget to take pictures! If you want these same gorgeous fish in your living room, you can setup and maintain a saltwater tank with only a bit more effort than your freshwater tank. They key is to choose hardy fish that will last as saltwater fish are much more fragile and more expensive than their freshwater counterparts.* Winter Word RaceDamsels are probably the most hardy fish and should certainly be considered for a new tank as well as for beginners. These fish are fairly inexpensive, are not finicky eaters and can withstand poor water conditions better than any other marine fish. Although they are not the most colorful of fish, they are certainly your best bet until you become experienced and have a stable tank. The only caveat is that some can be aggressive so you should limit yourself to 2 per tank.* Balloon Drop

Who doesnt love a good balloon game? Arrange players in a circle and have them number off. The player with the highest number is It. It stands in the center of the circle, and calls out a number while dropping an inflated balloon. The player with that number must catch the balloon before it reaches the floor. If the player catches the balloon, It calls another number. But if the balloon touches the floor, then that player is It and the game continues.

Samantha Brown Says "Tune In"

I was a lucky guy recently as I got to meet the host of the Travel Channels Great Vacation Homes, Sams Disney Favorites, Girl Meets Hawaii and the soon to be aired Passport to Great Weekends the lovely Samantha Brown.

It occurred to me that even though hotels can provide the same experience to a degree they cant quite provide the intimacy that a vacation home provides. Hotels, you see, have other people involved. Other people at the pool, other people in the dining room, other people wandering around the corridors and hallways and other people in places you just dont want to see them.I have to admit it stopped me for a moment and then I thought wowshes absolutely right. It also made me realize that what we do at Florida Leisure Vacation Homes is exactly that. We provide people with fantastic vacations and fantastic vacation homes so that they can spend quality time with the people they love the most so they can tune in to each other.Children love to be creative. My five year old proves this to me every day. Sometimes she needs a little nudge in the right direction but then she can take off with an idea and play, while learning, to her hearts content. That's what little children are doing while they're playing, learning. They learn by mimicking mommy or daddy. They learn while going through their daily routine and watching the world around them.Help you child learn numbers and writing by playing "office", "grocery store", and "bank". Make desks from discarded cardboard boxes. Add recycled paper cut into little squares and some (washable) pens and pencils. Give them jobs such as writing up the grocery list, counting how many cans of such and such you have in the pantry. Or counting the change found around the house as they make a deposit into their "bank".The fireplace is an often neglected area of many living rooms, and this is a pity because it can be such a lovely focal point if handled properly. Installing a new fireplace mantel either buying one for the first time or replacing an existing one does not take as much work as you think. If you don't have a fireplace mantel, consider getting one as it will give your fireplace a more finished, polished look. If you have a fireplace mantel, replacing it with something a little different can have a major impact on your living room. A wood fireplace mantel is easy to install so you dont have to hire a contractor. You can paint or stain a wood mantel to match the dcor of your room. Fireplace mantels are excellent places to display items of importance to you and your family such as heirlooms and family pictures. A fireplace mantel is also an excellent place to hang stockings and display cards around Christmas time. For play some children's days will be spent pretending to be a teacher with a class full of stuffed animals, driving a car down their the busy neighborhood of the family living room, or diaper their baby doll alongside mommy and their new sibling.Samantha said something that made me stop and think she was talking about the reasons why people travel and why they take vacations. She said most people take a vacation to tune out but what they really should be doing is tuning in to their family, their partner, their friends and to themselves.or Jack Greenhalgh from Williamsburg, VA who commented: The house was perfect for the family. The location was terrific, allowing us to easily bring the kids to the house for lunch & a pool romp before going back to the park.and its when you read comments like this plus the hundreds and hundreds of others we have collected that you really realize what this company and what the people who work for it are all about. Were giving people wonderful experiences and memories that will last forever. Sometimes when were going about our normal lives we forget that so today, thanks to Samantha Brown Ive had a jolt that brought me back to my roots its great to do something in life that makes other peoples lives better. Thanks for the reminder Samantha it was great to meet you I look forward to the next time.

Snazzy Ideas For Keeping Your Kindergartner Entertained At Home

Forget the plastic doo-dads on the store shelves, the store bought package lunches. All your child needs for a happy, productive, fun filled learning day is probably already contained within within your home. Let them help you look.

Yeah thats right. People vacationing in a home get all that time to tune in to their loved ones and time to tune in to themselves.Children are resourceful. Most anything can become a favorite toy. Be on the lookout for learning adventures.*** The articles on this website are made freely available to all members of the media and the press. The only condition is that credit be given to Nigel G. Worrall as author of the articles.Children love water play too. Find something in the home that needs a bit of detailed cleaning. Something such as soap dishes or some of their plastic toys. Set them up with a little bowl of soapy water in a small bowl, a sponge and a cloth to dry. Lee them work along side you in the kitchen or at the dining table. But that's not all they can play with. For practicing words or letters try a fishing pole fashioned from a stick found in the garage. Add some spare ribbon, and a magnet ripped from the back of a spent notepad. Cut out paper fish to catch with words, letters, or numbers your child is learning to read written on them. Paperclips or staples attached to each mouth to "aid in the catching of the fish".

Decorating Tips to Update Your Living Room: New Paint, a Fireplace Mantel and More

Your living room is the entertainment and living center of your home. Chances are that you've had some very memorable gatherings there, and it is where you relax and enjoy the company of family and friends. Because this room tends to be such a high traffic area, and to have so much time spent in it, it is often the first room to show signs of wear and tear and to begin to look dated. Luckily there are small changes (like switching out light bulbs) and big changes (like installing a new fireplace mantel) that can give your living room a new look and won't turn into a major DIY project, or turn your home into a construction site.

Finally, taking a look at what you have on display in your living room can give you some ideas for small changes that have a high impact. Do you have a vase of fake flowers that has been there for a decade? Perhaps now is a good time to replace it with something a little more modern. The artwork you have on your walls might also be due for some scrutiny too. Prints can be obtained fairly cheaply, and can really change the ambiance of your room. Remember that every little item and picture adds something to the room it is up to you to decide whether or not it should be changed out for something new.A little heavy lifting can change your living room; rearranging the furniture can create a totally different feeling in the room. Create a new focal point to the room by orienting the seating around the fireplace and not the television, or perhaps put the couches and chairs so that people are more encouraged to talk to one another. And dont just think about the seating, moving the coffee table, the end tables and bookcases can make a difference. If you need a new look without buying new furniture consider switching out the living room furniture with items from other rooms of the houseor Pat Scott from Columbus, Ohio who said: We really love the house & location to Disney World. The house has all the comforts of home & my family truly enjoyed the time we spent there. All and all it was fantastic. When our friends see our vacation pictures I expect you will be getting bookings. The other thing that Samantha said was How does a place make you feel what is the emotional value of a place? and that set me thinking of some of the great feedback and comments we have had from our guests and members. Comments like this from Geneva Ormond from Illinois, Chicago who said: I love retirement & that is why I love Florida Leisure Vacation Homes. We come down to relax, rest & recreation. The house is so large, all the family can enjoy without being stacked on top of each other. Some can swim, others can cook or BBQ, watch TV in each room. I just love it & the house is awesome.

Creative Sports Gift Ideas for the Special Man in Your Life

That special man in your life might be hard to buy for on holidays, birthdays, and other special occasions. But with a little thought, you can find great sports gifts that he will love - and use - every time. He probably has a favorite sport or hobby, as most men do. If you can narrow some of his favorite past-times, gift shopping will be much easier.

Old masonry fireplaces are often located where it would be much nicer to have large windows or french doors to the outside. Or they are just much more massive than they need to be, taking up valuable floor space. With the advent of modern prefabricated metal fireplaces, it's possible to remove an old masonry fireplace, and replace it (possibly in a new location) with a smaller and more efficient unit.If he's a camper, there are hundreds of products available today to make camping easier and more fun than ever. Some include lanterns, camping tools, tents, sleeping bags, backpacks, cookware, compasses, camping beds, outdoor chairs, fishing supplies, flashlights, and more. For the man who loves hunting, gifts can include decoys, camouflage clothing and gear, gloves, binoculars, firearm accessories, hearing protection, holsters or gun cases, archery items, scopes, and crossbow accessories.Look at turning hallways into part of the space of the adjacent rooms. This is not always possible, but hallways don't generally make a house feel larger or more expansive. They generally are perceived as being wasted space. By connecting rooms to each other without hallways, you'll end up with a space that feels larger and flows better.Interior design colour is responsible for glow of your space which in turn reflects the mood and purpose of its creation. Colour combination through various paint techniques provides the trick of giving every part of the space a different theme.Consider Green MaterialsIf he's an outdoors lover, there are a wide variety of gift items to choose from such as golf clubs or quality golf club covers for the golfer, new hiking clothing and gear, camping equipment, fishing gear or tackle, or even a gift certificate to enjoy his favorite activity. For certain sports such as baseball or football, some gift ideas include hats, gloves, baseballs, footballs, and other sports accessories.Just ask yourself a few simple questions. What does he enjoy doing the most in his spare time? Does he love the great outdoors - fishing, hunting, golfing, hiking, or camping? Does he enjoy more active sports such as baseball, football, basketball, swimming, running, or biking? Or, does he love watching his favorite sports from the comfort of his own living room?By letting go of preconceived ideas of how rooms should be arranged, you may be able to arrive at a solution that you couldn't imagine before. That may mean that the master bedroom needs to go where the living room is. Or moving the kitchen may solve many layout problems. While the project is still early in the design phase it's easy to test bold ideas, so do this early on to arrive at the best solution for your project.Sports Gifts for the Outdoorsman

You can find many unique sports gifts online at Web shopping malls, and often at great prices any time of the year. Many online malls carry other items as well such as jewelry, games (Nintendo, PS2, and Xbox), toys, phone accessories, auto accessories, home and garden products, and more. Be sure to plan ahead and order early enough to get your gift on time. You'll feel great when he opens a gift related to something he enjoys!
