I was a lucky guy recently as I got to meet the host of the Travel Channel�s �Great Vacation Homes�, �Sam�s Disney Favorites�, �Girl Meets Hawaii� and the soon to be aired �Passport to Great Weekends�� the lovely Samantha Brown.
It occurred to me that even though hotels can provide the same experience to a degree they can�t quite provide the intimacy that a vacation home provides. Hotels, you see, have other people involved. Other people at the pool, other people in the dining room, other people wandering around the corridors and hallways� and other people in places you just don�t want to see them.I have to admit it stopped me for a moment and then I thought �wow�she�s absolutely right�. It also made me realize that what we do at Florida Leisure Vacation Homes is exactly that. We provide people with fantastic vacations and fantastic vacation homes so that they can spend quality time with the people they love the most� so they can �tune in� to each other.Children love to be creative. My five year old proves this to me every day. Sometimes she needs a little nudge in the right direction but then she can take off with an idea and play, while learning, to her hearts content. That's what little children are doing while they're playing, learning. They learn by mimicking mommy or daddy. They learn while going through their daily routine and watching the world around them.Help you child learn numbers and writing by playing "office", "grocery store", and "bank". Make desks from discarded cardboard boxes. Add recycled paper cut into little squares and some (washable) pens and pencils. Give them jobs such as writing up the grocery list, counting how many cans of such and such you have in the pantry. Or counting the change found around the house as they make a deposit into their "bank".The fireplace is an often neglected area of many living rooms, and this is a pity because it can be such a lovely focal point if handled properly. Installing a new fireplace mantel � either buying one for the first time or replacing an existing one � does not take as much work as you think. If you don't have a fireplace mantel, consider getting one as it will give your fireplace a more finished, polished look. If you have a fireplace mantel, replacing it with something a little different can have a major impact on your living room. A wood fireplace mantel is easy to install so you don�t have to hire a contractor. You can paint or stain a wood mantel to match the d�cor of your room. Fireplace mantels are excellent places to display items of importance to you and your family such as heirlooms and family pictures. A fireplace mantel is also an excellent place to hang stockings and display cards around Christmas time.For play some children's days will be spent pretending to be a teacher with a class full of stuffed animals, driving a car down their the busy neighborhood of the family living room, or diaper their baby doll alongside mommy and their new sibling.Samantha said something that made me stop and think� she was talking about the reasons why people travel and why they take vacations.
